When my kids were little like yours are now, I was totally in my element in motherhood. But I do have a few regrets. Not many, but there are things I really wish I’d known at the time.
The main one... this chapter as a mum of little kids can feel slow. It can truly feel like it will last forever, or that by the time they’re all grown up, you’ll be ready to let go.
But far out, they really do grow too fast. I can’t tell you how many times people would stop me in the street and warn me of this, and I really didn’t take it in.
If I can convince you of one thing in my career as a family photographer, I hope it’s this… time is so precious, and it honestly goes so fast.
So if I could have my time over again... I’d be present more. I’d put my phone away. I’d give them my full attention when they wanted it. I’d stop sweating the small stuff, and I’d treat every moment like it was the last.
And I know I’m a photographer, so this is kind of a predictable one, but I seriously would get in the frame with them way more than I did. Because I promise you, when their 16th, 18th, 21st birthday comes around, you WILL kick yourself when you’re searching for shots where you’re in these memories with your beautiful kids.
I know, because I just went searching for photos for this post. Thousands of the boys, thousands of their dad. Yet, some years, not a single one of me.
Because far out, I loved being their mum. I still do. I just know now how fast it goes.

You’re so deep in the haze of parenthood these days it’s hard to see them. One day you’ll want proof of how they looked at you, and who you were to them.

This is what an in-home maternity session actually looks like. No studio, no stiff poses, no pressure to be anyone but you. Just a slow, calm morning in your own space, with all the things that make it yours.

We move gently. We take our time. And what we capture is so deeply personal because it IS personal. It’s you, in your home, growing your baby.

You’ll never be in this exact moment again. Let’s hold onto it.
