Summer evenings are the whole reason I do this job.
That bit right before sunset when everything goes gold and soft.
I’m opening up sessions for the summer light now. Beaches, headlands, backyards, your place, wherever your family actually is.
Comment or DM me “Joy” and I’ll send you everything. 🧡

I was reading back through these and there was a strong similarity.
Almost nobody leads with the photos, they all talk about how the session felt.
Being nervous and then not being nervous. Kids who hate the camera having the time of their lives. One mumma who booked two weeks postpartum and wasn’t sure she could face it, and is so glad she didn’t wait.
That’s the bit I’m actually proud of. Not that the photos came out beautifully, but that the hour itself was something they enjoyed, and that they’re in them.

If you only ever get one photo, let it be one where YOU are in it. Seriously… you are not going to value to all smile look at camera shot of the kids when they are all grown up, and neither will they. THIS is the one. The one where you’re the centre of their world.

Can we talk about backyard sessions for a second,

Can we talk about backyard sessions for a second, because I don’t think enough people know this is an option.

You don’t need your perfect dream home. You don’t need to tidy up. Half the magic in these photos is a plastic trike, a hose and a very serious water pistol.

All you need is the place they actually are at right now. The couch they jump on. The grass they run across barefoot. The window they press their hands against when someone pulls into the driveway. In ten years, that’s the stuff you’ll ache for, not a nice backdrop.

And it’s the easiest session there is. No packing the car, no tantrums in the car, and no wrangling anyone into the good clothes. The kids are at home, so they’re themselves. That’s the entire trick.

Summer evenings here are made for it.

Long golden light, sprinklers on, everyone barefoot.

Comment or DM me “Joy” and I’ll send you everything. 🧡

So school holidays are coming to an end, and for mummas and caregivers, that can feel like a relief in some part, and a breath of sadness in another.
When your kids are little, school holidays are a proper juggle. From play dates, to car lifts, to “I’m bored,” to the sibling fights.
But it can also be a blessing. Less nagging to get to school on time. Less lunch boxes to make and empty, less emails from the school or the WhatsApp group, more time with your favourite little people.
And look at this mumma. Climbed all over, and loved deeply, all holidays long. One day life is going to feel a lot quieter.
So I’d love to hear, are you...
